PAT Testing London
PAT or Portable Appliance Testing is a UK policy/safety regulation which comprises safety checks/tests on all electrical appliances.
A qualified PAT specialist will perform a relatively quick and easy test and then confirm if the appliance has passed or failed testing.
Once each appliance completes the test, they will be labelled with a dated sticker.
Upon completion a Portable Appliance Test Certificate will be issued.

Why do I need PAT Testing?
Although not a legal requirement in the home it is highly recommended.
The law does require however that employers, including the self-employed, ensure that all electrical equipment that they provide within their business is safe and properly maintained.
Work Regulations Act 1989
The Electricity at Work Regulations Act 1989 requires that all electrical equipment which has the potential to cause injury or harm is maintained in a safe condition, but these regulations do not actually specify how often PAT testing should be carried out. As with most Health and Safety matters it’s down to individual risk assessments. For example an electric drill on building site might need PAT testing more often than a light bulb in the home.
Quite strangely The Regulations also do not specify that PAT Testing need to be carried out by a fully qualified electrician. The PAT testing regulations do however point to the following:
- Correct equipment must be used to do PAT Testing

Gas Appliance Testing London
GSC or Gas Safety Certificate/Inspection is another UK policy/safety regulation which comprises safety checks/tests on all gas appliances.
A qualified engineer will perform relevant checks and confirm that each gas appliance is correctly set and adjusted (gas burning), suitable for its location, physically stable, securely fitted and properly connected to the gas pipe works.
The functionality and installation of the flue, chimneys and safety devices will also be tested and recorded.
Upon completion a Gas Safety Certificate will be issued.

Boiler Servicing
A Boiler Service will include tests and any other particular checks required by the manufacturer’s instruction guide.
During the service:
- The flue will be checked and tested for efficiency
- Catchment areas will be checked and cleaned thoroughly
- The appliance will be checked for spillage (the combustion exhaust gases will be analysed and recorded)
- Gas pressures will be checked
- The condition of the appliance will be assessed (gaskets, seals, corrosion, leaks)
